Dear Parents and Students,
I am so excited to share the new school year with you. This year I hope you will grow, learn, connect, serve and persevere as a community striving to do your best academically, socially, and spiritually!
Open-minded is the word that is often used to describe me! I love learning about different cultures. This is my third year teaching at Highroad however, most of my teaching experience for the last 13 years has been internationally. I have learned about different cultures through my travels, colleagues around the world and the students I have taught. Teaching for me is a calling and one I feel honoured that God has chosen me for. I have had the privilege to teach in many different contexts: a government funded school in Trinidad, a Roman Catholic school in London, UK, a Kuwaiti Girls school, a Special Needs school for Kuwaiti nationals and a top United Arab Emirates International Baccalaureate school. God has given me some amazing places to teach and opportunities to sow seeds for His kingdom.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in Geography and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from Trinity Western University. I also hold a Bachelor of Education degree specializing in International Education from Simon Fraser University and a diploma in practical theology from Christ for the Nations. My approach to teaching is student centered, inclusive and interactive in nature with learning facilitated by a using an inquiry method. My goal is to engage my students to develop critical thinking skills to help cultivate vision, imagination and aesthetic appreciation for the beauty and complexities of life and faith. We will explore academics but also the Bible with scavenger hunts, Bible studies, devotions and also video depictions of the Bible. My prayer is that God uses me to plant a seed in your child’s life that grows and flourishes. I also pray God’s Word inspires students to see and develop an attitude of thanksgiving and come to understand the heart of God more!
I am looking forward to getting to know you as we grow, learn, connect and serve together this year at HRA! As it takes a community to raise a child, open dialogue with you is crucial to your child’s success in and out of the classroom. I intend to use this blog as the primary communication from the classroom to home along with Student Planner. Please write a note in your child’s planner or email me with any concerns or questions you may have.
Blessings,
Mrs. Rachelle Augustin
